Admission Requirements

U.S. applicants

U.S. citizens are especially encouraged to apply for graduate study and are given preference in our admission process. In order to qualify for "regular" admission, the Graduate School requires either a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average or a 3.0 grade point average for your last 60 semester hours of coursework. If your BS degree is an engineering degree from an ABET accredited school, GRE scores are not required. However, we strongly encourage all applicants to take the GRE even though it is not required. If your BS degree is not in engineering or is not from an ABET accredited school, then a score of 1500 on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE), is necessary for "regular" admission. If your grade point average or GRE scores are below the minimal mentioned above, conditional admissions are sometimes approved.

You must submit an application, application fee ($25), transcripts, and three letters of recommendation. The Graduate School requires official GRE scores and transcripts. All application materials (except letters of recommendation) should be sent to the Graduate School and NOT to the Department. Letters of recommendation may be sent directly to the Department. The $25 application fee may not be waived.

To obtain an application you can request one via e-mail. Instructions for doing so are provided via the Graduate School homepage. From the Graduate School homepage, it may also be possible for you to either apply electronically or to download the necessary forms to be printed at your site. You can also request an application by sending an email to the Graduate Admissions Coordinator for our department, Dr. Ramana Reddy.

For additional details on the application process, please refer to the Graduate School homepage or Graduate Catalog.
